How to Become an RBT in 2026
The requirements have evolved with the 3rd Edition Task List. Follow these 4 steps to earn your credential.
Eligibility Check
You must be 18 years old, have a high school diploma (or equivalent), and pass a background check.
40-Hour Training
Complete a BACB-approved 40-hour training course covering the new 3rd Edition Task List (Ethics, Behavior Acquisition, etc.).
Competency Assignment
Demonstrate 20 specific tasks (e.g., DTT, Data Collection) live with a supervising BCBA.
The RBT Exam
Pass the 75-question exam at a Pearson VUE center. This is where most candidates fail.
